Why working women need to be clear about what truly matters to them and accept that trade-offs are inevitable
At a gathering, a close friend of mine asked, “How do you manage everything in your life? Family, kids, job, social life?”
I replied “I get a lot of support”. Yes but this is only half of the story. In addition to the getting support, I’m able to do all this because:
- I’ve mastered the art of being organised – I no longer waste time looking for things hidden under a mess (physical or digital)
- I’ve nipped procrastination at its roots (I try at least) so I don’t lose my time to nothing
- I’ve reduce time spent on social media and Netflix. They are real time suck
Do I indulge in any of the above? Of course, I’m human too but I’ve made a conscious effort to only allow myself some respite occasionally.
And if I may add, it’s perfectly fine if you are an avid drama fan that enjoys indulging in front of the screen during your free time (I do this sometimes!). However, it is important that we all know that there are only 24 hours in a day and we must accept that there will be trade-offs.
I know as a working mother, I’m not always going to be able to witness every milestone in my child’s life. While I can live with that, others may not be able to. So it’s absolutely critical that you assess what is important to you, understand the trade-offs and work towards your life goals.
